Pinestead Tree Farms, specializing in Christmas trees, is a family farm owned and operated by Phil and Helen Hartley.
Working alongside us is our son, Greg Hartley, who manages the production and
operations, and his wife Katie, who assists in the Gift Shop. In addition, our other family members and spouses help out on weekends during the busy season. And we look forward to when the grand kids can help out as well. Right now, their primary "job" is to try out our many photo ops—they still have a few years to go before they can get added to the work schedule.
The first Christmas trees at the Pinestead Tree Farms were planted in 1986, and these trees came to a sufficient size to enable the first sales seven years later, in 1993. We farm 87 acres of trees, rotating the fields to plan for new harvests in 7 to 10 years, depending on the variety of Christmas tree and the desired size.

Our trees have won more than 50 ribbons at the Minnesota State Fair, including both the 2006 and the 2009 Grand Champion Fraser Fir. Please check out our Braggin' Rights page to see other recognitions and recommendations from your friends and neighbors.
Our model train layout was featured in the American Christmas Tree Journal, March 2007, edition and has been the subject of two presentations at the National Christmas Tree Association (NCTA) conferences. The trains run any time the Gift Shop is open. We love to show them off, so stop by, no purchase is necessary.
We certainly want to recognize the great group of employees here at the Pinestead, many have been with us for years.
We also want to recognize the teams of helpers Helen has assembled to make your visit smoother and more enjoyable. Now if we only could teach them to say "may I help you" and "thank you". So let us say "THANK YOU" for them and from all of us.
Pinestead Tree Farms is a member of the National Christmas Tree Association (NCTA), The Minnesota Christmas Tree Association (MNCTA), the Minnesota Grown Program, and the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA). We are also proud to support our national community through the Christmas Spirit Foundation, www.christmasspiritfoundation.org and it's Trees for Troops program, our Minnesota community through the MNCTA Real Trees for Real (National Guard) Heros program, and our local community through the Isanti Chamber of Commerce.
