Notice -- a short video of the family fun things to do taken just ahead of our season opening has been posted on YouTube. Search on pinesteadtreefarms (all one word) and view "Family Fun 2011".
Every family has a great time at the Pinestead Christmas Tree Farm. You'll cherish the rich fragrance of fresh Christmas Trees and the sounds of laughing children scampering about in search of this year's most perfect tree for the holidays. Everyone will love our model trains in the Gift Shop, too!
Keep your camera handy as you go into the fields either by car (we have wide smooth lanes) or on foot. We have large, ice fishing sleds for pulling the kids out and the tree back.
On weekends**, if you want, you can board our free, decorated tractor drawn hay wagon
that takes you through the fields of Christmas Trees. Your ride will take you past Fraser Fir, Balsam Fir, White Pine, Blue Spruce, Scotch Pine, and Norway Pine—what a selection! The hay wagon runs "on demand". Just hop on at any time! After the hay wagon ride, warm up around the campfire with a cup of hot chocolate or apple cider.
While around the campfire join others in singing some Christmas songs. We have Christmas sing-along music playing with matching songsheets.
Once you're warmed up, it's time to visit the animals and avail yourselves of the many photo ops.
Choose and Cut
Once everyone has agreed on a tree (and many families want more than one), you can cut the tree yourself (we provide saws). Bring your tree to the Gift Shop area where we will shake the tree*** to remove loose needles. Then we'll bale*** the tree to protect it on your ride home and make it easier to get into your house and stand, and help you load it if needed. If you have one of our 30-second tree stands, we'll drill the tree as well. All at no extra cost!

More Fun: Campfire, Snack Stand, Now there is time for still more family fun and photos. Depending on the weather, you might want to join us around a blazing campfire to warm your mittens on weekends. Or we often have several farm animals that seem happy to have visitors to the farm.
The Snack Stand is open on weekends with a great selection of your favorites, including warm beverages, and then its time to explore the Gift Shop.
Did we mention our Model Trains? Two trains running simultaneously along separate, 160 foot loops all around the Gift Shop. The trains run
up the mountains, across bridges, past Christmas village, and through a covered bridge beside a flowing waterfall!
Of course, we've got some really great gifts and decorations in the Gift Shop too, so be sure you allow plenty of time for family fun at the Pinestead Christmas Tree farm in Isanti.
Here is a photo of a group of kids playing with Greg's dog Scout, our farm mascot. During the season she fattens up on hot dog scraps, poses for pictures with the kids, hops the haywagon for a ride, and generally owns the place. We swear she gets depressed when the season is over and there are no kids around. Your dog is also welcome, but we do request that you keep it on a leash.
**The hay wagon runs "on demand" that is, it is activated by hoping aboard, Thanksgiving Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and the first two weekends in December. It does not run if the temperature and/or wind chill is below zero degrees.
***Shaking and baling is at customer request and customer risk if the temperature is below 10 degrees. Excessive cold causes the trees to become too brittle and shaking and baling can result in broken branches.
