Caring for Your Christmas Tree

How we have cared for your tree

Growing a quality tree is one of the most labor intensive farm crops. Here is a quick summary of how we grew the "best ever" Christmas tree for your family's enjoyment.

  • After you choose and cut your fresh Christmas tree, we shake the loose needles and then bale the tree for you drive home-at Pinestead Christmas Trees and Gift Shop, Isanti, Minnesota.Planted it as a 2-3 year old transplant.
  • Watered it if necessary during the first 2-3 years.
  • Mowed or sprayed around it to keep the weeds down.
  • Fertilized it annually (Spruce and Fir) from about 3’ high to sale.
  • Sheared (trimmed and shaped) it each year from about 3’ high to sale, to give it fullness and taper.
  • Sprayed it as necessary to control a variety of diseases and pests.
  • Greened it (if a pine) to maintain its lush summer coloration (pines turn pale in the fall from a lack of chlorophyll as temps drop below freezing).
  • Shook it after cutting to remove any dead needles and baled it (size/temp permitting) to facilitate transport and setup.
  • Tied it on your car.

Families love to choose and cut their own fresh Christmas trees, and we are happy to help you learn to keep it fresh throughout the season-at Pinestead Christmas Trees, Isanti, MNHow you must now care for it

  • When placing in stand make a fresh cut (about 1/2”) to remove any sap seal and allow the tree to take up water.
  • Immediately place in water and keep water level above base of tree at all times.
  • Place away from direct heat, especially wood stoves and fireplaces.
  • Keep the humidity at 60-70% (for your comfort as well). One good way to do this is to place a portable humidifier in with the presents under the tree.
  • Decorate and enjoy!
  • Be sure and send us a photo.
  • Use a tree bag to catch any dropping needles while removing.
  • Call your local city hall to determine the pickup or drop-off options in your community. Never burn it!
